These
tips would come handy while shopping in Pattaya. This shopping advice is
based on what has been discussed with us by seasoned Pattaya tourists.
Bargaining
You have to display your bargaining skills everywhere save the big
department stores, and malls. In most markets of Pattaya and Jomtien,
the prices could be inflated to almost twice the real price. It could be
toned down after bargaining. Begin with half the price and then climb
up. The final price depends on your bargaining skills and the will of
the shopkeeper. You could pay upto 40% less than the original asking
        price.
Large retail outlets and most department stores and large retail
        outlets have fixed prices.
Credit Cards
In Thailand you should prefer cash payment to credit cards. Be careful
to use your credit cards only at the reputable businesses and with
caution because credit card fraud is increasing. Ensure that credit card
never goes out of your sight. Few stores might charge handling fee for
        credit card purchases.
Souvenirs
Some of the preferred items as souvenirs are silk products, leather
products, silverware, ceramics and wood products. Certain items are
available at fixed prices in several department stores. In other places,
you would have to do bargaining.
Jewelry and Gemstones
Jewelry and gemstones are popular choices as souvenirs. Their elegance
and craftsmanship have earned Thai stones fame all over. However, you
must remember to purchase from shops which are the members of the Jewel
Fest Club, the official organization of jewelry merchants. While
purchasing from these shops, your transaction details would be duly
recorded, and a certificate would be issued. This certification would
help you to get a refund 10% less if you return the product within
        specified time.
Touts
You must not go with touting taxi drivers and tour guides who would
offer to take you to exclusive places for shopping. You would be charged
heftily and they would receive commissions for bringing tourists there.
Antique Artifacts
It is prohibited to take images of Buddha, deities, and antique
artifacts from the country without prior approval from the Fine Arts
        Department in Bangkok.
Smile
A little smile could get you cheaper goods. The Thais like smiling and
      good humoured people.
